ZnO and MgO as inducers of spinel-like phase formation on alumina-based castables

چکیده

Environmental issues regarding Cr6+ formation lead to replacing chrome-containing refractories with greener alternatives. MgO-containing compositions have been extensively investigated for this purpose, however, few studies evaluated the likelihood of using other chemical elements as inducers spinel-like phase in refractory castables. In study, addition zincite alumina-based castables was and compared its MgO-counterpart. In-situ elastic modulus, assisted sinterability differential scanning calorimetry pointed out that gahnite (ZnAl2O4) took place at lower temperatures (∼ 1100 °C) than MgAl2O4 1300 °C). On one hand, feature induces anticipated strengthening Zn-containing compositions, giving rise possibility firing these temperatures. other, faster kinetics led a significant Kirkendall effect, changing morphology pores created during sintering, which became preferentially located interface alumina aggregates, negatively affecting some mechanical properties castable.

Effect of Combining Hydraulic and Phosphate Bonds on Alumina-Spinel Low Cement Castables

A basic alumina-spinel low cement castable (LCC) composed of sintered bauxite, reactive alumina, calcined alumina, calcined magnesia, microsilica, and high alumina refractory cement was prepared (castable A) to which 5% sodium hexa-meta phosphate was later added (castable B) to prepare samples for heat treatment at 110ºC, 900ºC, and 1400ºC. Bulk Density (BD), Apparent Porosity (AP), and Cold Cr...

Densification characteristics of chromia/alumina castables by particle size distribution

The quality of the refractories applied on integrated gasification combined cycle should be a key factor that affects both the reliability and the economics of gasifier operation. To enhance the workability of chromia/alumina castables, three types of ultrafine alumina powder were added to improve the workability. Densification behavior of such castables in the presence of ultrafine alumina was...

Formation of Two Types of Alumina/Intermetallic Composites based on the Reaction of Ilmenite and Aluminum

Ilmenite is a valuable industrial mineral containing Fe and Ti elements. Two composites with different morphology and composition were produced using the reaction of synthesized ilmenite and aluminum. The molar ratios of 1:2 and 1:8 were selected. The critical temperatures of each molar ratio were determined using the Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). The heat treatment of the systems ...

INFLUENCE OF NANO SILICA ON PROPERTIES AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF HIGH ALUMINA ULTRA-LOW CEMENT REFRACTORY CASTABLES

Colloidal silica bonded refractory castables have been developed recently. It was found that colloidal silica is one of the best binders can substitute other binders such as cement in No Cement Castable (NCC) and Ultra Low Cement Castable (ULCC) refractories. Also composition of colloidal silica with appropriate additives resulted in a gel form which makes the initial strength. Moreover, the na...
